"Believe in Your 'Elf" with the Rhode Island Gay Men's Chorus
October 7, 2022
Make your plans now to join the Rhode Island Gay Men’s Chorus for our first concert in two years! Believe in Your ‘Elf is a diverse collection of songs about the power and the fun of the imagination and the bounty that comes from the magic of dreaming and believing in all things good. Don’t be ‘elfish – spend an evening with us while we traverse through moments of sheer folly and delight as well as more poignant moments of inspiration and reflection – all done the RIGMC way, of course. There will be some surprises, too, so you really don’t want to miss out. We hope to see you there!

Thanks from the Rainbow Connexion!
June 22, 2022
The Rainbow Connexion extends its heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supported Beneficent’s efforts at the 2022 RI PrideFest on June 18, whether with us in person or in spirit. Because of you, we were able to let our hospitality flow in the form of free lemonade, colorful “God Made Me” stickers, and a special treat: hundreds of goody bags containing a rainbow of sweets and the message “There’s a Place for You Here!” which were handed out to booth visitors by Pastor Elizabeth!
Other highlights included special appearances by Pastor Jermaine and Joshua Maria Garcia (former Youth & Young Adult Educator), the display of two of our Easter flags (“Love” and “Joy”) designed by Diane Chain Cochran, and the premiere of a “We Believe” poster, based on the statements from Beneficent’s home page.
A special thank you to our Christian Ed folk, headed up by Kevin Nelson and Shannon Lemus, who managed the lemonade stand. It was a rousing success: fun for those who worked at it, quenching lemonade for Festival goers, and bringing in $182 in donations for Youth Pride Incorporated.

Church Building to Re-Open September 12
June 24, 2021
With the cases of COVID-19 decreasing and current vaccination rates in Rhode Island, a target date of September 12 has been set for a return to the Meeting House. The Beneficent Church leadership feels that now is the right time to phase in a re-opening of the Meeting House and a return to some in-person activities at 300 Weybosset Street. A re-opening subcommittee of church leaders continues its work to prepare the space, and the Beneficent community is encouraged to gather for outdoor activities in small groups as they feel comfortable. If the tide of pandemic changes, church leaders may reassess. When in-person worship resumes, we also will continue to live-stream services for those who cannot be with us in person.
Church Raises Over $5,000 for More Diverse Library
In keeping with its mission to “promote justice, peace, and healing in our local and global communities,” Beneficent Church’s successful Lenten Book Drive raised more than $5,000 to help supply diverse books for the school library at Raíces Dual Language Academy – a public elementary school in Central Falls whose students represent a wide variety of ethnicities and cultures. Raíces teaches students bilingually (50% in English and 50% in Spanish) to create bilingual, biliterate students, yet their library didn’t reflect that mission or the school’s diversity. Supported by our community and partners, Beneficent’s contribution supplied nearly 400 brand-new books to the library – books which feature Black and Brown characters and celebrate the work of people of color in the wider community.
In August 2019, my daughter and I left everything we knew and moved to Rhode Island. We were sadly aware that we were now over an hour away from family and from our church community. Two Sundays passed in our new home before we ventured into the large building downtown with the big dome. We were greeted with a warm welcome. Joyous music lifted our hearts...then we heard the greeting. My daughter moved in close and whispered, "we found a church home."

Beneficent has been my spiritual family for many years, and I love that its members and friends accept and support me as I am, even as I make my, at times, clumsy-fumbling way along the path Jesus blazed.

Each Sunday I would submit prayer request for the trials and tribulations I was facing, and all my prayers have been answered this past year because of the dedicated group prayers held at Beneficent Church and our Higher Power answering them.
