About Us

Being Queer Here

The United Church of Christ (UCC) uses the term “open and affirming” to identify congregations that have made a  commitment to welcoming all children of God, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

It doesn’t matter to us how you identify yourself – gay, transgender, LGBTQ, queer or otherwise. If you’re looking for a church that welcomes you exactly as God has lovingly created you, Beneficent Church is your new home.

A Word About Pride

Beneficent Church’s location at the corner of Weybosset and Chestnut Streets is typically along the parade route for the annual Illuminated Pride Parade. We are proud to sponsor a booth at the day-long PrideFest event, as well as a team of marchers in the evening parade.

This event is open to all from our  community to who want to participate. We invite you to join us for the festival and for the parade, as we demonstrate that Beneficent is a church who walks the talk.

The Beneficent Church community exemplifies and lives out the
affirmation, “All are welcome” —something churches often profess but fail to honor. In Beneficent Church, we have been embraced as we are and have found our long-sought-after spiritual home.

Leslie and John Felker

I am proud to be a lifelong member of Beneficent! I grew up in our
Sunday School, married another Beneficent member who sang in the choir, and raised our family in our Sunday School.

Irene Hope

Beneficent was a Godsend to me when I was grieving the loss of my parents. I found it to be a comforting and completely accepting place for me personally.
