“Homes and Hearts for the Holidays”

This Advent season, the Justice and Witness Ministries and Christian Education committees at Beneficent invite you to join us as we support Family Services of Rhode Island (Youth and Young Adults Housing Advocacy – Family Service of Rhode Island). This incredible organization helps young adults (ages 18-24) who have struggled with a lack of stable housing. Each calendar door will reveal an everyday item that you might not even think twice about having in your own home. However, for a young adult who is starting over in a new place after (or while still in the midst of) great hardship, these items often are luxuries they cannot afford. Through your generous donations (whether physical or financial), we will be able to help local youth feel like they’re able to come home for the holidays.

(Note: We understand that not everybody is in a position to be able to contribute financially. If that is the case, we ask that you still consider opening a new door each day and reading the information with your family, friends, or co-workers. Making space in your daily life for a couple moments of prayer, meditation, or thoughts of gratitude is a valid gift, as it’s a holy, community-affirming way to support those around you.)

As I open today’s calendar door, a brand new day begins.
Over the next 24 hours, may today’s item remind me to live in the present moment
and to see everyone through eyes of compassion.
Amen.
